KGA Introduces ImageKiosk -- A New Technology that Enhances Display of High Resolution Images Over the Internet

SAN FRANCISCO -- Koyosha Graphics of America, Inc. (KGA) has expanded its product line with the introduction of ImageKiosk, a browser-based client/server solution that enables Internet users to view, pan, and zoom-in on high resolution images using Netscape Navigator or Microsoft Internet Explorer. KGA is also the developer of Enhance Preview XT and Precision Preview XT, both of which are XTensions to QuarkXPress.

ImageKiosk uses Java technology to enable Web browsers to communicate with a remote ImagePump(TM) file server through a dial-up or dedicated connection. The ImagePump server sends only the data required for screen display, which enables a Web browser to quickly and efficiently access and display high resolution image data.

KGA is currently sponsoring The Art of the Poster, an exhibition at the Massachusetts College of Art's Huntington Gallery in Boston that features more than 100 posters by the acclaimed Japanese designer Makoto Saito. The exhibit is the first New England showing of the work of this innovative graphic designer. The posters combine the precision of graphic design with the visual complexity of painting. This is only the second time that Makoto Saito's posters have been exhibited in the United States, and the Massachusetts College of Art is the only venue for this show, which runs from November 9 through December 23, 1999.

In addition to sponsoring The Art of the Poster, KGA digitized the posters and created an ImageKiosk that contains the entire collection. Five iMac computers supplied by Apple Computer have been placed around Huntington Gallery and will be available throughout the exhibition. Viewers can use the computers to view high-resolution versions of the posters. Those who want to take a closer look can use ImageKiosk's magnifying glass feature, which allows viewers magnify a specific area within an image. The catalog can also be accessed via the Internet by visiting KGA's Web site at www.koyosha.com/imagekiosk.

"Our long-term goal is to provide dynamic imaging solutions to our clients internationally," says Ben Matsuzaki, KGA's COO, "ImageKiosk is KGA's first step in achieving this goal. Working closely with Xippix, Inc., our strategic business partner, KGA will continue to develop several products for Internet imaging that are based on the powerful ImagePump client/server architecture. These products will take advantage of both local and wide area networks to provide a more integrated workflow solution that offers better image sharing and a wide selection of collaboration tools. Not only will these solutions benefit the graphic arts industry, they can be used in both e-commerce and medical imaging environments, among others."
